Genesis passage = Sarai giving Hagar to Abram to have a child. Sarai getting peeved when Hagar began to “lord it over her” for being pregnant. Sarai complaining to Abram about the whole thing, even though it was her idea. Abram saying, “What do you want me to do? You deal with it.” Keep reading →

Epiphany

Today is Epiphany .

Not much going on here vis. the readings. Matthew continues with Jesus’ discourse in chapter 5. Jesus has some very specific things to say about divorce which our church and society seems to have brushed off in recent decades.

The Genesis passage is an extended account of warfare among kings extant in Palestine before Abram became well known. I’m not sure why this is here; I suppose to set the context of the area at this point in the story. Commentaries have much more to say about it than I do.

What it brings to mind for me, however, is the thought I’ve had already about the culture of the Middle East — they fight a lot. And have been for a long time. I don’t think the warfare is willy-nilly; it must be for territory and control of trade lanes. But there are times when the warfare is presented in a way that makes you wonder…

Babble On, Indeed

The point to this particular blog is to jot down thoughts that come to me as I do my daily Bible reading. What comes out on the page is stream of consciousness writing. I looked over what I wrote for today and amazed at how disjointed it seems to be. I know where the points of connection are but they don’t translate very well.

Since my other objective for this blog is to practice writing COHERENTLY, I hope this improves with time and effort. It’s just gotta!

Reading the Bible, Year 2

Last year, around the 4th, I began reading through the Bible. My sister had given me this handy book when I was either still in college or just starting seminary, I forget which.

Well, now!

I got an email today from John at the LOGOS HQ in Pittsburgh telling me that I had been doing a great job as “bloggerino” for one of the sites and inviting me to start a blog of my own. Since I already have two, Are You Dressed? and Virtual Porch , I should probably have declined. How on earth am I going to keep track of three blogs????

Oh well. I am inspired and as a tribute to my brother in law, Digital Bill, I’ll give it a shot. Not that anyone other than my husband will be by, but there you have it.
